(RRP) Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule
The Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule (RRP), a Federal regulation, went into effect on April 22, 2010. RRP requires renovation and painting contractors and other trades who work in pre-1978 housing in Louisiana and who might disturb painted surfaces to become Lead Certified Renovators. This rule covers a variety of jobs including: remodeling, renovation, painting, window replacement, electrical work, plumbing, heating & air-conditioning, demolition, & services provided by trades such as carpenters, electricians & handymen. RRP also applies to people working for rental property owners, schools, day cares, non-profits and government agencies in Louisiana.
Why is this Federal regulation important?
When surfaces with lead paint are disturbed, particles of metal and dust merge and become a "lead-containing" dust which can severely affect people's health (especially pregnant women and children). There is NO safe-level of lead for your body.
What are the effects of lead on the human body?
- Learning and Behavioral Problems
- Kidney Disease
- Miscarriage and Birth Defects
- High Blood Pressure
- Depression and Bad Behavior
- and MUCH more
Lead is also thought to play a major role in society's crime rate and doubles the number of children in special education classes.
